Survey of Ukraine's Egg Market
The egg
market in Ukraine is not satied fully - a minthly average consumption of eggs does not
exceed 20 pieces. Optimal is consumption of 24-25 eggs, and in European countries the
consumption reaches 27-29 pieces a month. As eggs are one of key foodstuffs being
affordable and relatively cheap, their proudction has not experienced reductions in the
crisis period (Table 1), rather has demonstrated considerable growth (by 6.0% in 2009
versus 2008). Considering the fact that in 2009 plant growing reduced by 2.4% and milk
production - by 1.3% coupled with stable meat production, the retained volumes of total
agricultural output in 2009 was underpinned by egg production. The growth in egg
production was driven by increased total number of poultry.
